The Information Technology department is interested in the practical aspects of information technology in network security and communications, computer vision and machine learning, database systems, and data mining.The Information Technology department at the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research was established in 1987. It is the first interdisciplinary IT department in Egypt. The department accepts the students with different backgrounds from academic colleges and institutes to obtain general Master's and Doctorate degrees in information technology.

The primary goal of the department is preparing researchers and innovators in the IT field. The department is interested in the practical aspects of information technology. Fields of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Software Engineering,
2. Digital Communications and Computer Networks,
3. Network and Information Security Systems,
4. Computer Vision and Machine Learning,
5. Expert Systems and Smart Decision Support Systems,
6. Database Systems.
