The department of Biotechnology at the IGSR, established in 1987, is the first of its kind in Egypt. It is based on an interdisciplinary approach where staff and students from different backgrounds can conduct their applied and basic research.
Research areas include industrial biotechnology, biotechnological waste management, microbial biotechnology and medical biotechnology. The department highly encourages applied research topics and aims to serve different industrial applications.
